Final details are now confirmed for this year’s annual Manufacturing Breakfast Seminar hosted by Shorts Chartered Accountants, NatWest and Banner Jones Solicitors at the Proact Stadium in Chesterfield. This year’s event is being held as part of Destination Chesterfield’s Made in Chesterfield week on Thursday 13 November 2014.  Master Cutler David Grey MBE, Chris Heaton and Dr. Chris Wilson are confirmed as this year’s speakers, who will be focusing on the future of manufacturing within the region.

Providing a ’one stop’ opportunity to speak with people from many sectors under one roof, representatives from AMRC, Derby University, Manufacturing Advice Service, UKTI, Sheffield EEF, Arthur J Gallagher, Shorts, NatWest, Banner Jones, Destination Chesterfield and Chesterfield college will also be attending with information stalls.  Anyone wanting the opportunity to discuss import / export issues, obtain more information on training or apprenticeships, employment law and other legal issues, finance, Grants, R&D or tax issues relating to Manufacturing businesses will be able to speak to representatives before and after the event.  Stalls information.

On site all day, delegates will have the opportunity to look around the AMRC’s Mantra bus.  Mantra is the Manufacturing Transporter, the AMRC’s unique travelling showcase for advanced engineering.   A Customised 14m HGV trailer designed to give aspiring young engineers a hands-on experience with real cutting edge technologies.

During the Seminar, Master Cutler, David Grey MBE will be the first speaker. David Grey MBE was installed as Master Cutler on 7th October 2014.   His father was in the Royal Navy and he moved extensively with his family until settling in Sheffield at the age of 15, where he has lived since.  After college, he joined TW Ward as a trainee accountant.  He left that business to join a sales organisation but, being an entrepreneur by nature, he set up his first company  at the age of 23 with a £1,000 borrowed from his mother and a similar amount from the bank.  Since then, he has built up his business by acquisition and organic growth to a group of companies exporting to most of the world.  He has held various appointments in business bodies across the Region, latterly as a member of the Local Enterprise Partnership Board with responsibility for Inward Investment and Business Growth.  He has recently resigned from the Board in order to concentrate on his role as Master Cutler.  He was awarded an MBE in the 2010 New Year’s Honours’ list for his services to industry and regeneration in Sheffield.   He married Ruth in July this year, has a son, two step sons and a step daughter.  He has a private pilot’s licence, a Piper Saratoga aeroplane, has only recently given up a single seater racing car and counts skiing, scuba diving and football amongst his hobbies.

The second speaker, Chris Heaton has worked in the professional services and manufacturing sectors at board level in Sheffield, Leeds and London.  Chairman of Sheffield Assay Office since 2012 and interim Group Managing Director of OSL Group Limited, Chris is also a previous President of the Sheffield & District Society of Chartered Accountants and has served on the national Institute’s Council. He is also well known for his charitable work, and has raised in excess of £70k for Brathay Trust completing endurance challenges: recently completing 30 marathons in 30 days.

The final speaker confirmed is Dr Chris Wilson, a full member of IEMA, Chartered Waste Manager, Chartered Environmentalist, BSI Registered Lead Auditor and Professional Energy Manager.  He is a Senior Environment Consultant for Mentor and his key competencies include: energy management/ auditing, environmental legislation and compliance, resource efficiency, renewables, auditing, environmental risk assessment, carbon foot-printing/ management, waste management, climate change, developing and delivering waste/ environmental training and environmental management systems.  Chris has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and won a number of prestigious awards.

Places are offered free of charge, but space is limited and early booking is recommended for this event.  Registration is from 8.00am, presentations commence at 8.30, with Q&A to close.  The event is expected to close at 10.30am.
