Earlier this month, the partners at Shorts hosted a Gala Dinner at Chesterfield FC’s Proact Stadium in Chesterfield, where partners and directors past and present joined many of their longest standing clients in celebration of the firm’s 125th anniversary.

Guests were greeted by string trio Simply Strings, who accompanied the reception drinks and canapes, before the evening’s MC, Howard Freeman called guests through to Dinner in the Stadium’s Legends lounge.

Following Dinner, senior partner Paul Beeson led the speeches, looking back over events of the last 125 years, charting the development and growth of the firm. Paul reflected on the growth experienced during his time as senior partner, and the development of new and refurbished premises in Chesterfield and Sheffield.

Long standing client John Eyre then responded, amusing guests with anecdotes from his days as a junior clerk with Shorts in his early career before leaving to work within the family business. The evening continued with entertainment and many of the guests enjoying the hospitality until late into the evening.

Speaking after the Gala Dinner Paul commented ‘It was an honour to host such a prestigious event, and to be senior partner during such an exciting time in the firm’s history.   There was a real sense of celebration and warmth in the room, with many of the guests having association with Shorts going back several generations.   I am confident that Samuel Edward Short who founded the firm back in 1890 would be proud of the Shorts of today.”

“We take pride in our modern and innovative approach, bringing fresh ideas to our clients as a matter of course.   At partner and manager level, we employ individuals with significant experience, many of whom have worked at high levels within national and international accounting firms. The result is a breadth of service consistent with the larger national firms.   Committed Chesterfield champions and serious about growing our presence in Sheffield, we are in a confident position to commence the next chapter of our history and look forward to supporting local businesses for many years to come.”
