A large part of my time is spent talking to clients and meeting with potential new clients. A particular area of specialism for me, and something I would actually admit to enjoying, are Research and Development (R&D) tax reliefs.
R&D tax reliefs were introduced by the government to encourage companies to innovate by offering them tax incentives. When they are available, the reliefs can give companies significant corporation tax savings, providing a subsidy of almost 25% from the government towards your innovative activities.
Many businesses however, do not think that the reliefs are available to them, or think that the activities they undertake do not qualify. We do a lot of work in this area and are continually surprised by the various types of activities in many sectors that we identify as actually qualifying for relief.
I really enjoy helping businesses, and want to ensure that business owners are claiming all the help that they are entitled to, including R&D tax reliefs. These claims are often overlooked, simply because business owners overestimate the level of innovation required for a claim, but in our experience, the majority of innovative businesses are carrying out some form of qualifying activity and are often unaware of it.
Our R&D Brochure has examples showing some of the claims we have prepared over recent years. The tax team at Shorts has a wealth of experience advising on all aspects of R&D tax reliefs and we are keen to ensure that you claim any relief that is available to you. We are flexible in how we charge for this work, and charge based upon a percentage of tax saved, so if you think that your business might be missing out on R&D tax reliefs, please do not hesitate to contact me, I would love the opportunity to discuss this with you further.
