Sheffield-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can now apply for grants to improve productivity under a new scheme from the local council.

The Business Productivity and Digitisation Grant Scheme offers grants of up to £10,000 to help Sheffield businesses upgrade or change current operations, or introduce new systems.

Under the scheme (funded by the GOV.UK: Shared Prosperity Fund), South Yorkshire businesses can also track the performance of these productivity projects.

The grants can contribute towards the revenue or capital investment of a business’s select goal.

As part of the grant's requirements, businesses must contribute 50% of the funding towards their selected project. The grant will cover the remaining half.

Businesses can apply for one of two grants:

  • Productivity - apply for a grant of between £2,500 and £10,000
  • Digital innovation - apply for a grant of between £2,500 and £5,000

Full details concerning eligibility and exclusions for the Business Productivity and Digitisation grants are on the Sheffield City Council website.

The business support team at Sheffield City Council can also support SME owners to help them identify productivity issues, find solutions, apply for the grants, and measure performance.

Over 200 Sheffield-based businesses have claimed the productivity grant. Funding is limited, and competition will be high. If you have questions about the grant or would like more support for improving your company's long-term growth, the Owner-Managed Business team at Shorts is here to assist.
