The beginning of a new year is often a time of reflection and as our Radius team comes to the end of another significant year, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the significant achievements of the last five years.

£13m savings for clients

December 2019 saw the team hitting the £13m milestone -  passing the point where £13m work of accumulated tax savings have been made for clients claiming R&D and Patent Box tax relief.  With recent HMRC figures highlighting the regional statistics for R&D tax claims made, we are delighted to see that the average tax savings per client is currently significantly above the average and thrilled that this has such a positive impact for local companies.

Working closely with other organisations

2019 also saw the Radius team continuing its relationship with the local Chambers of Commerce, being R&D tax relief partner for;

  • Sheffield Chamber of Commerce
  • Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce
  • East Midlands Chamber of Commerce

These relationships help us ensure we do our bit to boost local prosperity, helping companies claim their full entitlement to the available reliefs. As we are committed to focussing on helping companies access these reliefs, we were delighted in 2019 to also become R&D tax relief partners for both the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Sheffield Digital.

Growth within the Radius team

The continued growth of this service has naturally lead to continued recruitement within the team including.

  • Ex-HMRC R&D Inspector Darryl Hoy, one of the very few ex-HMRC R&D specialists working in practice
  • During 2019 R&D specialist Tom Whitworth was promoted to the position of Director and the team was further boosted by the appointment of Emily Hurdley, a graduate in Bio-Chemistry.
  • Alongside Caroline Hawkins, Abdul Kaleel and Marianne Lindsay, the Radius team now boasts a six strong team of innovation tax specialists, working under the leadership of Tax Partner Scott Burkinshaw, who himself has more than 20 years’ experience working with the R&D tax relief regimes.

Looking ahead into 2020

With the current Government indicating their continued, and indeed increased, support for R&D tax relief in the Queen’s Speech last month, as we move into 2020 the Radius team look forward to helping more companies access R&D and Patent Box tax relief in as efficient and pain free way as possible.

Claiming R&D tax relief is simpler than you may think. So if your business is making an ‘appreciable’ improvement in technology or science, you could join the thousands of innovative companies nationally that have already benefited from R&D tax reliefs.
